The Metropolitan Museum Of Art, New York City

The history of the Metropolitan Museum of Art was started in 1866 in Paris by a group of American people, who make thoughts how art education could be available to the public. Τhe museum opened on 13th April 1870 at the historic Dodworth Building. However, the location of the museum changed in 1880 and it was transferred to its permanent location on Fifth Avenue and 82nd Street. Here, you will find artworks that are dated many years back, including 7th century Islamic art and the well-known “The Dance Class” painting by Edgar Degas.

Louvre Museum is one of the most famous museums in the world, where visitors can see an outstanding collection of artworks. Some of the most well-known masterpieces of art, which are included in the gallery of the Louver Museum, are the “Mona Lisa” painting by Leonardo da Vinci, “The Winged Victory of Samothrace” and “The Psyche Revived by Cupid's Kiss”. The Louvre Museum was used as a royal palace during the 16th century. The Louvere opened officially as a museum in 1793.

Visit one of the most impressive museums in the world. The terracotta sculptures show the armies of Qin Shi Huang, who was the first Emperor of China. The terracotta army was originally created back to the late 3rd century. This amazing masterpiece of art was discovered in 1974. The terracotta army consists of more than 8,000 soldiers, 130 chariots with 520 horses and 150 cavalry horses.

The British Museum, London

At the beginning, the British Museum, the first national museum in the world, was a natural history museum. The establishment of the British Museum by King George II was very important, because the public had access to the physician Sir Hans Sloane’s collection, which consists of more than 68.000 pieces. More exhibits were gradually added in the museum. Today, some of the most famous exhibits are the Elgin Marbles and the Rosetta Stone.

The State Hermitage Museum is an important gallery museum, which is dated back to 1764, when Catherine the Great bought 225 paintings by Flemish and Dutch artists, because she wanted to create her own private gallery inside the Winter Palace. Nowadays, you can find here a large collection of artwork, which consists of paintings by Dutch and Flemish artists as well as a great deal of Japanese porcelain collection.

The Acropolis Museum, Athens

In the Acropolis Museum you will find archaeological findings, which are dated between the Greek Bronze age and Byzantine era. Including more than 3.500 sculptures and archaeological findings, the Acropolis Museum is one of the most important history museums in the world.

Rijksmuseum officially opened on 31 May 1800. Here, you can find more than 200 paintings. The location of Rijksmuseum changed, when King Louis Napoleon ordered that the collection of Rijksmuseum to be moved to Amsterdam.

Tate Modern Museum, London

Tate Modern Museum began in 1889. Henry Tate, a British industrialist, supported the establishment of the museum donating a large and valuable British collection of 19th-century art and funding the first Tate Gallery. A century later, the idea of establishment of the Tate Modern Museum came true when Tate Trustees announced the development of the museum. Masterpieces of art are included in the gallery of the museum, such as “Marilyn Diptych” by Andy Warhol and “Nude Woman with Necklace” by Pablo Picasso.
