Explore Sentosa Island that is close to Singapore, and visit the Siloso Beach. Visit the underwater Aquarium, where you have the opportunity to swim with dolphins. On Sentosa Island, Merlion, the known statue, which has the head of a lion and the body of a fish, represents the city's humble start as a fishing village combined with its traditional name “Singapura” that means "lion city."

Another must-see sight is Fort Canning, which was built in 1859 and it was used as fortification for Singapore's defense. Today, a modern art exhibition and a park, where concerts, theater performances, and festivals take place, are included. Visit the Raffles Hotel in Colonial district, constructed in 1887, where Rudyard Kipling, Joseph Conrad and Charlie Chaplin stayed. If the Raffles Hotel and Fort Canning don't satisfy your curiosity for colonial architecture, then visit the Empress Place Building that was constructed in 1865. Nowadays, this place houses the Museum of Asian Civilizations that includes an Asian cultural exhibition, which focuses mainly on Asian spirituality and trade.


If you desire to learn about life in Singapore during 1960s, then you have to visit the Island of Pulau Ubin that also called as "Granite Island". Here, about one-hundred people live in the same way as people did during 1960s. Nowadays, the island is an earthy paradise where you can find inner peace and relax away from daily routine. Here, a must-see site is the Chek Jawa Wetlands that contain a coral reef with sea life.


Another peaceful place is the Botanic Gardens, which are Singapore’s first UNESCO World Heritage nomination. Here, you can discover natural and wild beauties of Singapore. Do not forget to visit the outstanding National Orchid Garden.


Finally, explore the popular area of Clarke Quay, which was a powerful trade center during 19th century. Now, visitors can find restaurants, walk around and take cruises in order to admire some city's historic bridges and landmarks.
