The capital of Cambodia, Phnom Penh is one of the most popular travel destinations in the world. Here, visitors can go to the National Museum and learn more about the dynasty of Khmer kings as well as the history during the pre-Angkorian and Angkorian period.
In addition, here you can find the Royal Palace, the Tuol Sleng Museum, and the killing fields of Choeung Ek where you can be informed about the horror and brutality that prevailed during the Khmer dynasty. Also, if you have free time, you can visit the Wat Phnom Temple that was constructed in the 14th century. Other must-see attractions in Phnom Pehn are the temple complex of Wat Ounalom, the Psar Thmei market and the Independence Monument that symbolizes the Cambodia's independence from French in 1953.
Located on the top of Dangrek Mountains and in the border with Thailand, the Prasat Preah Vihear is a complex of temples that was built to honor the god Shiva. If you want to explore the province of Cambodia, travel to Battambang city and see the surrounded countryside that mainly includes rice fields and small villages. Dated back to 7th century the pre-Angkorian temple site, Sambor Prei Kuk, is an important ancient place, where some of oldest historic structures have been preserved. Also, there is perfect natural beauty in this place and the most extraordinary attraction is the tree-wrapped site. Prasat Sambor, Prasat Tao and Prasat Yeay Peau are the most remarkable temples in surrounded area.
Another outstanding ancient site is the Temple of Banteay Chhmar. Surrounded by jungle it is located in a peaceful site away from the crowds. This place is related with the most powerful kings of the Khmer dynasty, Jayavarman VII.
Visit the Tonlé Sap lake, which is the home to 170 floating villages. All buildings have been constructed using foundations of lashed together barrels and bamboos and every transport is only by boat. Two famous places on Tonlé Sap are the Kompong Luong and Chong Kneas village.
