Berlin, the capital of Germany, has plenty of UNESCO World Heritage Sites and offers a mix of classic and modern styles of architecture. Feel the dynamic vibrant atmosphere of life in the streets of Berlin.
Built by the King Frederick Wilhelm II in 1788, the Brandenburg Gate is a neoclassical gate, which was inspired by the Propylea in Athens. Located in the Mitte district's Pariser Platz, its height is 26 meters. It was used as blocked gate between West and East Berlin during the Cold War.
In Berlin another must-see UNESCO World Heritage site is the Museum Island. Here, the exhibitions of the Old Museum (1830) houses the Crown Jewels and other royal treasures. In addition, the New Museum (Neues Museum), which lies on the Museum Island, houses an extensive exhibition of the Egyptian culture and history as well as plenty of Classical Antiquities.
From 1876, the Old National Gallery houses Neoclassical sculptures and paintings of Impressionism and Modernism that dated back to 1815-1848.
The most popular exhibitions can be found in Pergamon Museum. Learn about the Islamic Art, the Ishtar Gate and the Middle East history. On the Museum Island you will also find the Berlin Cathedral (Berliner Dom) that has been constructed using the New Baroque style.
Another must-see sight is the primary residence of the German royal family, the 17th-century Charlottenburg Palace. You will be charmed by its impressive Baroque and Rococo styles of architecture in combination with the 50-meter central dome. Moreover, you can visit inside this extraordinary building and see the State Dining Room, the Golden Gallery and rooms of the Old Palace.
Also, the Zoologischer Garten, the oldest zoo in Germany, is home to 20,000 and more animals that come from different world places. Finally, the Berlin-Dahlem Botanical Garden is worth a visit. It has been built since 1679 and houses so many gardens as well as 20.000 plant species, which come from Europe and countries with tropical and subtropical environments.
